Schematic of analog beat detector using 3 stages of a quad opamp (LM324): stage 1 provides large gain and suitable DC offset from button mic input, stage 2 is LPF and unity gain buffer followed by dual (fast and slow) diode-based envelope detectors, which provide a simple AGC. The 3rd stage opamp is wired as a comparator between the fast and slow envelopes, resulting in a bass pulse detector relatively insensitive to changes in volume.
