As reported <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/ap\/financialnews\/D8AJ2IOG0.htm?campaign_id=apn_tech_down\" title=\"more like an ice cream bar ...a malicious ice cream bar\">by BusinessWeek<\/a>, WSJ and a few other places, the malware vendor <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.ca.com\/securityadvisor\/pest\/pest.aspx?id=453075474\">Hotbar<\/a> has been sued by Symantec, apparently in response to receiving a nastygram from Hotbar&#8217;s lawyers demanding Symantec stop detecting their malware as&#8230; well, malware. Unfortunately this is a common theme in malware research (rather than crapware vendors actually make their software less evil, just threaten or sue everyone who reports on it), but they&#8217;re usually smart enough to just <a href=\"http:\/\/www.benedelman.org\/spyware\/threats\/\" title=\"yes, the letter at the bottom was addressed to me\">go after the little guys<\/a>. Doh! <\/p>\n<p>Symantec is not seeking monetary damages (shame on them ;-) , but is seeking a declaratory judgment asserting their right to detect, list and remove Hotbar&#8217;s software.<\/p>\n<p>QOTD: There&#8217;s something happening in my pants&#8230;I&#8217;ll be right back&#8230; -Scott, finding his pants had been ambushed by Ethiopian food<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Now that&#8217;s what I like to see.
